2. About the department

The department of Dermatology Venereology and Leprosy(DVL) was inaugurated on February 2021 in this institution.The Department of DVL offers out-patient and in-patient care for all diseases affecting the skin,hair,nail and also offers special care for venereal diseases and leprosy.The department runs speciality clinics to provide consultation & treatment for occupational dermatosis, pediatric dermatology, vitiligo,psoriasis,bullous disorder,contact dermatitis and drug allergies.Patients requiring day care and admission to the hospital are admitted to the 10-bedded DVL Ward.

3. Services Offered

The following facilities are available for patients:

  1. Treatment of common and rare complex skin diseases
  2. Treatment of diseases of hair and nail
  3. Treatment of Sexually transmitted diseases
  4. Treatment of leprosy
  5. The following dermato surgical procedures were done as daycare surgeries :
    1. Intralesional steroid injection for Lichen planus, keloids, alopecia areata.
    2. Wet wrap therapy for atopic dermatitis and chronic eczema.
    3. Nail splinting and removal for ingrowing nail and dystrophic nails.
    4. LASER treatments for excessive hair(hirsutism).
    5. Skin scrapings for fungal identification.
    6. Slit Skin Smear for Hansens disease.
    7. Skin Biopsy for Histopathological examination.

Undergraduate medical teaching and training:-

Duration of clinical postings:

6 weeks ( in 3 sessions, 2 weeks each, during their clinical years)

Theory lecture classes taken by faculties for Undergraduate students as per NMC curriculum.

Aim: At the end of their posting students should be able to recognize and treat common skin conditions.

NATIONAL LEPROSY DAY JANUARY 30.

On this day of event leprosy awareness speech was delivered to the public and students,and pledge was taken by all in a mass gathering.
